From the Board of Directors – Economic Development Lethbridge
Message from Board Chair, Charlene Scheffelmair

Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL) has always been defined by the strength of its people and their
unwavering commitment to our community. Today, I wish to share important updates regarding two of our
senior leaders, while also reaffirming the Board’s confidence in the future of this organization.

Leadership Transitions
Beginning October 1, 2025, Renae Barlow, Vice President of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, will transition
from her current salaried role into a project-based contract with EDL through April 30, 2026. This change reflects
Renae’s decision to begin pursuing exciting new opportunities while continuing to support EDL during this
transition period. Renae has been a champion for entrepreneurs and innovators across Southern Alberta,
playing a key role in initiatives such as Tecconnect, RINSA, and numerous programs that have empowered startups to succeed. Her creativity, vision, and leadership have left a lasting mark on our innovation ecosystem, and
we are deeply grateful for her contributions.

We also share that Trevor Lewington, Chief Executive Officer, will be leaving EDL to pursue a new opportunity
effective November 5, 2025. Since joining EDL as CEO in 2015, Trevor has guided the organization through a
decade of growth, change, and resilience. His tenure has been marked by bold advocacy for the Lethbridge
region, strong partnerships with government and industry, and an unrelenting belief in the power of economic
development to shape vibrant communities. Trevor has been a tireless ambassador for our city and region, and
his leadership has strengthened EDL’s reputation provincially, nationally, and internationally.

Both Renae and Trevor are recognized as top performers, not only within EDL but across the broader
community. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to be clear: they leave with our full support,
appreciation, and respect. Their legacies will continue to benefit Lethbridge and Southern Alberta for years to
come.

Looking Ahead
During this period of transition, the Board is pleased to announce that Ben Young, Director of Investment
Attraction, has been appointed Interim CEO. Ben is a respected leader within the organization and brings deep
knowledge of investment attraction, strategic partnerships, and economic development practices. His
appointment ensures continuity as EDL navigates upcoming negotiations with key government funders and
advances several important initiatives already underway.

Our Commitment
EDL’s strength lies in its people, its partnerships, and the vision we share with our community. While transitions
in leadership are never easy, they also bring opportunities for renewal. With the dedication of our talented staff
and the steadfast support of our funders, stakeholders, and community partners, the Board is confident in EDL’s
ability to continue delivering meaningful impact for Lethbridge and Southern Alberta.

Please join us in expressing gratitude to Renae and Trevor for their years of leadership and service, and in
welcoming Ben as he steps forward to guide the organization during this important time
