Inaugural Brighter Together Food Journey to Highlight Local Producers
Aug 19, 2022
Lethbridge, AB…The first-ever Lethbridge Brighter Together Food Journey takes place Tuesday, August 23 as a launch
event to Whoop-Up Days 125th anniversary. The Food Journey, hosted by Tourism Lethbridge, Lethbridge & District
Exhibition and Economic Development Lethbridge will showcase some of the farms and food producers in and around the Lethbridge region. Participants will have the opportunity to visit four local producers, take a construction tour of the AgriFood Hub and Trade Centre at Lethbridge & District Exhibition, and end their day with a three-course dinner prepared by Executive Chef Alejandro Verdi of Lethbridge & District Exhibition, using locally sourced ingredients from the Food Journey tour. The Brighter Together Food Journey will see Lethbridge and area organizations, community stakeholders and local, provincial, and national members of government agencies participate in the event, kicking off Whoop-Up Days.
“Southern Alberta has so many farms and producers who are creating some of the highest quality, best tasting foods
around the world” says Erin Crane, Chief Executive Officer, Tourism Lethbridge. “The Lethbridge Brighter Together Food
Journey allows the owners and operators of these farms and businesses to showcase their products. It also allows some of our partners from other parts of the province to experience what our region has to offer, it’s a win for both the businesses and participants.”
The Brighter Together Food Journey will begin at Lethbridge & District Exhibition and shuttle attendees to many locations throughout the area. Stops will include Prairie Hill Farms, Little Gem Winery, Broxburn Vegetable and Café and Crystal Springs Cheese. After the Food Journey, participants will be given a guided tour of the Agri-Food Hub and Trade Centre, and then experience a meal created by Executive Chef Alejandro Verdi, using the locally-sourced ingredients from the tour–all sourced within a 20 minute drive from Lethbridge.
“Whoop-Up Days is a marquee event that drives economic acceleration to the City of Lethbridge and Southern Alberta –
the launch of the Brighter Together Food Journey showcases our thriving agri-food sector to key investors and partners,” says Mike Warkentin, Chief Executive Officer, Lethbridge & District Exhibition. “The development of the Agri-Food Hub and Trade Centre will champion investment in our agricultural industry, and our neighbours who produce and process the food that sustains the rest of the world.”
Event organizers expect the inaugural Brighter Together Food Journey will become an annual inclusion to Whoop-Up Days celebrations in Lethbridge.
Economic Development Lethbridge Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Lewington says an event like this is just one example of how organizations in Lethbridge live up to the Brighter Together community brand. “Working with exceptional partners like Tourism Lethbridge and Lethbridge & District Exhibition allow us to create events like this to help elevate our community. Creating a unique and memorable experience, during one of our regions signature events, at the future home of a signature facility is incredible. You add that to some great opportunities to connect with people and organizations you may not normally have the opportunity to do so with and good things are bound to happen, both for them and subsequently for Lethbridge and the surrounding area.”
