#InThisTogetherYQL Wrap Up and #WeAreBackTogetetherYQL initiative announced

May 21, 2020
For Immediate Release

Lethbridge, AB… The Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce, Lethbridge Downtown BRZ and Economic Development Lethbridge have concluded the #InThisTogetherYQL campaign. Since early April, this initiative has helped raise awareness of local businesses and how the community came together to support them though the early and uncertain stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The community was asked to post about and tag their favorite local businesses for a chance to win a $100 gift card to that business. For a complete list of winners and businesses please see the list on page 2.

The #InThisTogetherYQL promotion was the 2nd awareness campaign from the 3 organizations falling under the Lethbridge: Brighter Together community brand which was launched in September 2019. “After the success of the #ShopTogetherYQL campaign, we wanted to have something to help tie our local business community together”, says Cyndi Vos, Executive Officer, Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce. “Together is the key word in all these campaigns and we want the business community, as well as residents and visitors to know that Lethbridge comes together when needed.”

Economic Development Lethbridge CEO, Trevor Lewington says as the economy in Lethbridge begins to re-open, businesses can learn from others in similar situations. “It hasn’t been easy for local businesses, and as some owners look to relaunch under a new normal, having a collaborative approach and sharing ideas and practices will help. No matter the sector, or clientele, things have changed and will keep changing, and the best way to get through it will be together”.

The next iteration of the campaign is already underway and was launched by the Downtown Lethbridge BRZ. The #WeAreBackTogetherYQL campaign is running now and will run through the summer, wrapping up on the August long weekend. Businesses can pick up signs to display in their storefronts with welcome back messaging. Much like other campaigns, shoppers are asked to visit Lethbridge businesses and take pictures of their favorite, items, merchants, and stores for a chance to win gift cards.

“Every business is going to have different ideas on when and how to open, and we want to help them announce or celebrate this”, remarks Ted Stilson, Executive Director, Downtown Lethbridge BRZ. “It’s been tough on them and spreading these signs throughout the city is a way to show our businesses that we are here to support them and do what we can to help. By giving away gift cards our hope is to help boost their business and get some traffic through their doors.”

The #WeAreBackTogether campaign will close at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3rd, 2020. Media are invited to a virtual media scrum with representatives for each organization and prize winners through Zoom on Friday, May 22nd at 10:30 a.m.
