Economic Development Lethbridge to host Ignite YQL

Aug 1, 2017
Lethbridge, Alberta - Economic Development Lethbridge is pleased to bring Ignite to the Lethbridge stage for the first time. Since Ignite started more than 10 years ago, it has become an international phenomenon with Ignite events produced in more than 350 locations around the world.

Ignite talks are quick presentations intended to challenge the presenter and inspire the audience. Presenters get 20 slides, which automatically advance every 15 seconds. The result is a fast and fun presentation which lasts just 5 minutes.

“We hope to create an opportunity for thought leaders to deliver a passion pitch that inspires others and connects Lethbridge to a global stage through the Ignite community,” says EDL CEO Trevor Lewington. “From past experience as an Ignite presenter, I would say that it’s an interesting and worthwhile challenge to deliver a concise message within this format.”

Ignite’s mission is Everyone Speaks. They believe that public speaking builds confidence in individuals and that events like Ignite build community. Their goal is to make it possible for anyone, anywhere, to learn to present their ideas and their stories.

“As an organization that values innovation, we wanted to take a fresh approach to information sharing and felt the Ignite framework was well aligned with this intention,” says Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy Jaylene Ulmer. “By showcasing interesting and inspiring people within Lethbridge, we can continue to build a reputation as a bright community with forward-thinking solutions.”

EDL is currently accepting online applications to present at the event. Through the application process, eight to 10 speakers will be selected to participate in this Ignite YQL 2017 at the ENMAX Centre on Thursday, October 26 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. For more information about the event, how to apply, or to purchase event tickets ($15/person) visit chooselethbridge.ca/igniteYQL.
