Lethbridge - A partnership between the Province of Alberta and City of Lethbridge to upgrade municipal infrastructure will help kick-start the single largest private investment in the city’s history.

The partnership will support jobs and economic growth by servicing a major expansion of the Sherring Industrial Park.

The expansion will pave the way for Cavendish Farms to expand its business in Lethbridge by investing at least $350 million for the construction of a new, state-of-the-art frozen potato processing facility.

Discussions between the city and the province on the infrastructure upgrades required to support the expansion of Sherring Industrial Park are ongoing and expected to be finalized in spring 2017.

Potatoes grown in Southern Alberta are among the highest-value agricultural crops grown in the province. It is anticipated that the investment announced today will create demand for an additional 3,640 hectares of potatoes, which will create greater opportunities for local producers and will increase the province’s value-added food processing capabilities. Today’s announcement will also provide more jobs and benefits for the local economy.
