When it comes to future-proofing the Lethbridge economy, Economic Development Lethbridge understands that the best way of doing so comes from the integrations and adoption of new technologies and innovation. The organization has implemented multiple tools to help with the work it does and is a huge proponent of business and industry implementing these technologies as well.
Lethbridge is a world leader in virtual and augmented reality due to the comprehensive work done in the sector by Lethbridge Polytechnic. The Virtual and Augmented Reality Certificate allows students to use their imagination to create immersive worlds and events that can be used by business and industry anywhere in the world.
With manufacturing and agriculture as two of the main industries in Lethbridge and Southern Alberta, driving innovation for businesses in these sectors is paramount to the success of the region. Working and engaging with industry about the needs of their operation has led to initiatives like the Supply Chain Automation Pilot Program and others that assess and assist local industry with the introduction of robotics to their plants and warehouses. This work continues with reports such as Lethbridge’s Manufacturing Workforce, which was completed in March of 2024 to help assess the readiness of Lethbridge manufacturers in adopting and staffing their operations with new technologies.
The Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta (RINSA) as a collaborative partnership between Alberta Innovates with Economic Development Lethbridge/Tecconnect, Lethbridge Polytechnic, and the University of Lethbridge. It has since grown to over 14 member organizations in Southern Alberta. The focus of RINSA is to help entrepreneurs and start ups in rural and remote areas of Southern Alberta with tools, learning opportunities, innovative resources and business advice for their ideas and products.
