Lethbridge Commercial & Industrial Study Provides Growth Recommendations

Lethbridge, AB… An updated roadmap for economic development in Lethbridge is ready to take hold with the culmination of the Commercial & Industry Study, a reported commissioned by MXD Development Strategists for Economic Development Lethbridge.

The purpose of the study was to identify market-supported development opportunities and establish a strategy for supporting growth, optimizing land use, and strengthening the competitive position of Lethbridge, as well as to highlight coordinated actions that should be addressed to achieve this plan.  “This study is a comprehensive effort to document and address opportunities to unlock economic growth while addressing priority areas for improvement that will help achieve this outcome” says Economic Development Lethbridge interim CEO Ben Young.

The initiative involved an extensive policy review and synthesis of local economic trends, as well as extensive stakeholder engagement to help inform its key findings.  The report offers a land demand forecast and growth scenarios to guide future planning, along with key recommendations in ten focus areas that are intended to provide a blueprint to harness future economic growth. The intent of these recommendations is to provide the City of Lethbridge, EDL, and other stakeholders with actionable steps that balance immediate priorities with long-term vision, ensuring Lethbridge strengthens its role as Southern Alberta’s economic hub and creates opportunities for residents, businesses, and industry partners.

“Addressing the recommendations provided offers a path to sustained prosperity and will help ensure Lethbridge continues to achieve outsized growth moving forward” notes Young.  “We have had a chance to put some thought into how to address the items identified and look forward to working towards these goals with local partners in the weeks and months ahead.  We know that we have a strong foundation to build upon, but want to ensure we avoid complacency by ameliorating the items flagged for improvement as soon as possible”
