Numerous businesses and industries strive in Lethbridge as we are known for having a diversified and somewhat insulated economy. Many of our sectors and key industries do not experience boom or bust, highs and lows, or do so at a more minimal level than other parts throughout the province and country.

Lethbridge has a healthy mix of private and public sector industries which provide bountiful opportunities for job seekers and new graduates to flourish and establish themselves and their families in Lethbridge. This diversity also provides a community where businesses can be successful and offer their employees a great work-life balance.

According to EDL data gathered in late 2022, there are 37 major employers in Lethbridge with 100 or more staff currently employed at their location. These employers are a mix of numerous sectors including Health Care & Social Assistance, Education, Public Administration, Manufacturing, Professional Scientific & Technical Services, Retail, Construction, Agriculture and Culture & Recreation. A Mix of Goods and Services Based Sectors

With Lethbridge being both a post- secondary city and a location that attracts retirees, the need for professional services is key to our community striving. Students who live or locate in Lethbridge often work in the service and retail sectors and the accommodation & food services and wholesale & retail trade sectors. On the other end of the spectrum, health care and social services is the sector that employs the highest number of residents in Lethbridge. Educational services is also one of the more highly employed sectors in Lethbridge, not surprising as our city has two post secondary institutions. 

Major Employers

The University of Lethbridge and Lethbridge Polytechnic both employ over 1,000 people, making them two of the biggest employers in the City of Lethbridge.
