Health Services

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans. In the South Zone, AHS serves nearly 300,000 residents in communities from Oyen to Milk River, Medicine Hat to the Crowsnest Pass.  Every day, close to 7,000 employees, 2,000 volunteers and more than 500 physicians work in the 62 hospitals and continuing care facilities in southern Alberta. Centres and Practitioners:

Chinook Regional Hospital is a 287-bed acute-care facility that serves as a referral hospital for residents of Southwestern Alberta, from the Crowsnest Pass in the west to Taber in the east and south  to the U.S. border. It is the largest hospital in South Zone, providing tertiary level care to residents. Programs and services include:  24-hour emergency and acute care; renal dialysis; the Jack Ady Cancer Centre, offering chemotherapy and radiation services; obstetrics; surgery; geriatric assessment and rehabilitation; inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care; laboratory and pharmacy services; heart function and pacemaker clinics; palliative care consultant services; pain services; intensive care, pediatrics, social work, volunteer resources and much more.  The hospital has modern diagnostic imaging (CAT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, mammography, fluoroscopy, radiography) and a large day-procedures unit. A number of specialized clinics are located at CRH including the Locatelli Eye Centre, a sleep clinic and asthma clinic.  The hospital is home to a wide range of educational, medical and non-medical support services, a cafeteria and gift shop. The newest re-development project at CRH provides a new 19,000 square metre, multi-story addition to the hospital as well as about 3,500 square metres of renovations to parts of the existing hospital, including a new Emergency Department.

Located in the city’s former Train Station, this is the centre for public health, health inspectors, infant and child immunizations, Children’s oral health, environmental public health and more. To find a family physician or to learn about Lethbridge medical clinics, visit the Chinook Primary Care Network (CPCN) for a comprehensive guide (includes information on physicians taking new patients):www.chinookprimarycarenetwork.ab.ca/. CPCN serves the entire southwest corner of the province and is a collaboration between local physicians and AHS to provide and co-ordinate a comprehensive set of health care services to patients. In total,  CPCN operates in 11 rural communities and 11 Lethbridge physician clinics. There are 133 physicians participating in the CPCN, providing care to just over 183,000 residents.
