Lethbridge, and it’s beautiful and distinct landscapes and never ending Alberta skies, Lethbridge is the perfect location for film and television production. The undulating coulees in the region, winding Oldman River and rural backdrops are the perfect backdrops for film and television productions. EDL knows this sector can pay huge dividends to the city and region and is working actively to expand and engage with partners and stakeholders in the creative industries sector.
With the continued interest in gaming, and the explosion of Esports, Economic Development Lethbridge is keen to be a player in these areas. Through the Regional Innovation Network of Southern Alberta (RINSA), EDL has helped and worked with many local and regional game and app designers to help perfect and test their ideas. In May of 2024, during the inaugural High Level Innovation Conference, Lethbridge hosted the 2024 Alberta Esports championship at the Agri-food Hub & Trade Centre. The event introduced gamers in Lethbridge to a new level of engagement and opportunities in the Esports community.
The introduction of new technologies into each and every sector of the work world, allows EDL to work with local content creators and industry professionals about how these new tools are and will shape the landscape of film, television, music, gaming and overall consumption of content. Lethbridge Polytechnic offers a world renowned Virtual & Augmented Reality certificate course that equips students with tools that are in high demand right now in the creative industries sector.
