Economic Development Lethbridge Board of Directors Expanding

Jan 7, 2020
For Immediate Release

Lethbridge, AB…Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL) is looking for new members to join its Board of Directors. Currently, the board includes 25 members, expanding to 31 this March at the organization’s annual AGM. The current Board of Directors has individuals from a variety of sectors and organizations within Lethbridge that provide relevant feedback, guidance and networking which help in the decision-making processes of the Economic Development Lethbridge CEO and team members. EDL is a nonprofit organization, funded in part by the City of Lethbridge with a mandate to help attract potential business and investment to Lethbridge, assist existing business in the community and support start-ups through Tecconnect, its entrepreneurship & innovation incubator. EDL Chief Executive Officer, Trevor Lewington says adding new board members will help fill some gaps on the current board. “Our current board noted some gaps in the structure we are currently under leaving some key sectors of our economy underrepresented. With these new positions, we are hoping to round out an already strong board and add a few new people from different sectors with some different outlooks, ideally to help EDL become a stronger organization.” The six new board positions include representatives from the following sectors; Airport, Education, Health & Wellness, Young Professional, Young Entrepreneur and Sector-at-Large.

In addition to the six new positions on the EDL board, the organization is looking to fill positions of members leaving the board as a result of their term on the board expiring. These positions include Construction, Financial & Professional Services, Nonprofit and the Regional Economic Development Agencies position.

Outgoing board President Jenn Schmidt-Rempel, who also sits as the Nonprofit representative commented on the upcoming board openings, “The EDL board is a great way to contribute to our community. The work the EDL team does helps contribute to a healthy and diverse local economy. Our board helps guide them in some of the decision-making processes they face and provides the organization with a vast array of contacts and networking opportunities. We are looking for board members who will help the EDL team and in turn the City of Lethbridge.”

Board of Directors for Economic Development Lethbridge are asked to volunteer two hours per month to attend monthly board meetings which are usually held the 3rd Wednesday of each month. To become a board member please send a current resume and cover letter to info@chooselethbridge.ca by Friday, January 24th at 4:30 p.m. Individuals interested in becoming an EDL board member can find information online at https://chooselethbridge.ca/board-of-directors.
