‘tec it out’ Celebration Marks the Grand Opening of tecconnect – An Alberta centre for new commerce
Together with its partners, Economic Development Lethbridge (EDL) celebrates this project milestone with a ribbon cutting ceremony followed by tours to showcase the new facility.
The City of Lethbridge recognized the tremendous value of the project and took the lead investment role when the EDL Board brought the opportunity to them. With their commitment of $1.16 million in capital funding, EDL was able to participate in Canada’s Action Plan through Western Economic Diversification, who invested $4.39 million in the construction of the centre bringing the total value of the project to just over $5.55 million dollars. tecconnect is designed to attract, incubate and develop technology companies through commercialization of products and services. The centre has an Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) focus with a specific emphasis in geospatial imaging.
Iunctus is providing at-cost data centre capacity for tecconnect clients as well as $1 million over the next five years to support the start-up operations of the centre. President Ryan Johnson says, “A more robust technology sector will help us access qualified employees and expand our operations. We see this as a way to anchor our firm in an environment that will also support the development of others.”
Overall, EDL is focused on using the centre to attract new business and create opportunities for further business activity within our community. EDL Board Chair David Jensen says. “We are advocates for the new knowledge economy and the capacity of our city and region to contribute to a vibrant technology future that benefits every sector and resident.”
