Health ServicesResidents of Lethbridge benefit from the Albertan and Canadian healthcare systems – one of the world’s best. It is only possible because it is a taxpayer funded system that ensures everyone gets equal care. That is no easy task and governments regularly struggle with providing care while keeping the burden on the taxpayer as low as possible. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is responsible for providing acute hospital care, community/ public health services and continuing care for 150,000 residents. They operate 10 active treatment and/or continuing care hospitals, 15 Community Health sites and a Children’s Care Centre. For more information about Alberta’s healthcare system, visit: www.health.alberta.ca Alberta Health Services brings together 12 separate entities in the province: nine regional health authorities and three provincial bodies working in the areas of mental health, addictions and cancer.
