Lethbridge’s population has been able to grow with the needs of the local economy and demand for services. The city and county have enjoyed population growth above the national average that has been stable at 2% annually for the last ten years.
The spring 2010 municipal census pins Lethbridge’s population at 86,659 with a larger than average 20-29 year old population primarily due to the post-secondary institutions in the city. As well, the city offers a welcoming community for seniors, making Lethbridge's demographic profile closer to Canada's than that of the Alberta.
The County of Lethbridge population, as of 2006, was 10,302 up 3.7% from 2001. The county also boasts one of the youngest populations in the country considering 44 per cent of residents are less than 25 years old.
Demographics
The city has a larger than average population of 20-29 year olds primarily due to the two post-secondary institutions in the city. As well, the average of the city's population is around 37 years of age. In the 60+ age group, the city’s demographic profile is closer to Canada’s than Alberta’s profile. The population gender distribution is moving closer to a 50/50 between men and women with the gap mainly in the over 55 age range.
The County also benefits from a very young population with a high percentage of youth and a lower percentage of seniors.

Based on the 2006 Canadian Census, the average household income in Lethbridge was slightly less than the national average while The County of Lethbridge has an average annual household income that is slightly higher than the national average.
Since 2001, households that earn more than $60,000 per year, have increased by 2.4%, middle income households have remained steady and the lower income level has declined by 3%.
The average employment income of those employed full time is $44,740 per year.

Language and Culture
In 2006, 12% of the Lethbridge population spoke languages other than English or French. This portion of the population has grown by nearly 10% since 2001.
Lethbridge is home to 12% of the total Alberta population who identify themselves in the Japanese ethno-cultural group.
In the 2006 Census, 3,455 Lethbridge residents identified themselves as Aboriginal.
The groups experiencing the largest growth from 2001 to 2006 are South Asian (117%) and Latin American (93%). Both groups currently comprise 25% of the visible minority population of Lethbridge.
